ABOUT ME
Hi there. I'm Layla, a young woman who loves her Fandoms. I write book & movie reviews, fan theories, personal opinions and insights, recommendations, in-depth analyses, and anything else that comes to mind as I go along. I have pretty strong opinions, and we're going to do a lot of deep dives – but we also try to keep it fun! My specific main fandoms are listed below. Let's dive into our favourite stories together.
The Beatles
My favourite band since I was 14; I love their irreverence and the way they write love songs. There's something about their dynamic that's just irresistible. I would say I totally had Beatlemania and it was just fifty years after the expected time! To read my review of the Get Back documentary, click here
Aladdin; Disney Princesses
I was a bit late to this particular Fandom; didn't get into it until I was 22, but who says you're ever too old for dreams coming true or happily ever afters?? My all-time favourite Disney movie is Aladdin, so that's like a separate fandom all on its own. In fact, if you want to read me enthusing about Aladdin for pages until I've covered the entire movie, go ahead and click here
Harry Potter
I got into this Fandom when I was 12 – just a little too old to start attending Hogwarts, as it happens. (For those wondering, I am a Gryffindor.) There's so much to love about this series, it's hard to narrow it down for the blurb – but if I had to pick just one, I'd say how can you not love a book series that points out how the children and teenagers sometimes know better than the adults? Early 1940s Batman
I specify the era because Batman obviously changes a lot in the eighty-plus years he's been around. This particular era gives me one of the only stories I can find with nearly everything I like to read about: danger and excitement, a clear-cut line between good and evil, genuine devoted friendship, and a happy ending every time. I wish I could find more books like this! I also love the 1960s TV show. For a more in-depth review of early Batman, click here
Star Wars (Original and Prequel Trilogies)
The saga has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. That long-standing loyalty is definitely one of the reasons I love it so much – but honestly there are many more. Like all the layers of both exciting action and the great character interaction, the banter and the friendship and the love – I'm sorry, but Star Wars is not a good example of an action movie that's nothing but action!! Not to mention the single best ending to a story I have ever seen (in Episode VI)! For some of my favourite Star Wars recommendations, you can click here
